Palmer P. Garson
Managing Director and Partner
Palmer Garson brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry to Cary Street Partners. Creative and proactive, she leads Institutional Advisory Services for the Wealth Management Division which provides management expertise to investment committees of foundations, endowments and pension plans. Palmer also provides advisory services to family offices. She has extensive wealth management experience as a relationship manager, principal, and member of numerous investment committees.
Fascinated by the markets and finance since her high school years, Palmer’s career in financial services began in investment banking, which led to experience in mergers and acquisitions, followed by 18 years in private equity and, ultimately, wealth management.
“My varied and long career in finance gives me a broad and unique perspective on markets. I’ve also worked with and served on investment committees of all types,” notes Palmer of her industry experience. “Today, I greatly enjoy helping our clients obtain their short and long-term investment goals by sharing my extensive knowledge of alternative investments, an important strategy for helping generate risk-adjusted returns.”
Prior to joining Cary Street Partners, Palmer was a co-founder and Managing Partner of Jefferson Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on providing growth financings to well-managed, late stage rapidly growing companies, primarily in the consumer, business services, education, healthcare and selected information technology industries. Before co-founding Jefferson Capital Group, Palmer developed extensive finance experience while working for Morgan Stanley & Co., A.G. Edwards and Mellon Bank.
Palmer has a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Master of Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.
Palmer currently serves as a Trustee for the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation as well as a director for Xenith Bankshares Inc. She has served as a Trustee for the Virginia Retirement System, the Darden School Foundation as well as the Collegiate School, where she was a former Board Chair. She is also active with Duke University where she has previously served on the Trinity College Board of Visitors and the Duke Annual Fund Executive Committee. Palmer and her husband Doug have four children and reside in Richmond, Virginia.
