When Joe Brower joined Cary Street Partners in 2007, he brought with him over 20 years of investment banking experience. Having held several senior banker positions within both regional and international institutions, Joe has amassed extensive expertise in the specialty areas of bankruptcy reorganization, distressed merger advisory, special committee advisory, and structuring of debt and equity investments.
Joe is known for his insightfulness and analytical skills. He believes in and operates under one simple investment philosophy – strategy should drive every decision. His approach to business starts with the same question, “how does this transaction fit into a comprehensive personal and business strategy?” He answers this question by developing and communicating thoughtful strategic advice to his clients.
Before joining Cary Street Partners, Joe was a Managing Director of Soles Brower Smith & Co., a regional investment bank which he co-founded in 1994. Prior to that, Joe was the Director in charge of the U.S. Private Placement Group of Samuel Montagu, the merchant banking arm of Midland Bank PLC (now HSBC) in New York City. Before working with HSBC, Joe was a Vice President in the High Yield Corporate Finance Department of Citibank Securities Markets. His career began in the investment banking division of First Union Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Joe received a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1981. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Darden School in 1986 where he was a recipient of a Faculty Award for Academic Excellence. Currently, he sits on the Board of Advisors for both Slumberland,Inc. and Klaussner Furniture. He is a member of the board of The Children’s Museum of Greensboro and the president of the Community Swim Association. Joe, his wife and four sons live in and enjoy Greensboro, North Carolina.
